PPC was started prior to W.W.II by the FBI., and it was termed the Practical Pistol Course until 1959. Two Indiana State Police Officers and a special agent for the FBI, developed the course of fire for police officer training. Several years later the NRA picked up on it and developed the National Police Pistol Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. Today, the course is fired with a semi auto pistol or revolver at different positions ranging from standing, kneeling, prone, right hand barricade, and left hand barricade. Time limits range from 8 seconds to 2 minutes 45 seconds. This is a good way to learn marksmanship and become proficient with a handgun. Equipment required: Any center fire or rimfire open sighted double action revolver (or semi auto pistol), at least 4 revolver speedloaders (or 4 magazines), 48 to 258 rounds of ammunition, a strong side holster, eye and ear protection. This match is open to anyone who wants to participate.
