Pioneer Benchrest season runs from March to October on the third (3rd) Sunday of each month.  Matches start at 8:30 am with sign in starting at 7:30 am.

Cost is: Rimfire – $5.00          Varmint – $10.00         Wolf is $10.00 (all three is $25.00)

Rimfire is always shot at 100 yards distance at the 100 yard Hunter Rifle Target.

Depending on the month, we shoot either 100 yards or 200 yards in the Varmint and Wolf Classes.   Shooting 100 yard uses the Hunter Rifle Target and the 200 yard uses the IBS 200 yard – 5 bull target.

March is 100 Yards                                          July is 200 Yards

April is 200 Yards                                             August is 100 Yards

May is 100 Yards                                             September is 200 Yards

June is 200 Yards                                            October is 100 Yards

Rimfire is 2 targets at 100 yards for 50 shots total.  25 shots per target plus sighters.  Five (5) shots per bull is the course of fire.   Possible score of 500 points.  Both targets are hung at the same time.  It is the first match shot in the morning.   Time limit is 45 minutes including sighters.

Varmint Class is 5 targets for 25 shots total.  Only one shot per bull is the course of fire.  Possible score of 250 points.  Competitors hang 3 targets at the start for a time limit of 25 minutes including sighters.  Targets are pulled for scoring and the last 2 targets are hung with a time limit of 15  minutes.  It is shot following the Rimfire match.

Wolf Class is also 5 targets for 25 shots total.  Only one shot per bull is the course of fire.  Possible score of 250 points.  Competitors hang 3 targets at the start for a time limit of 25 minutes including sighters.  Targets are pulled for scoring and the last 2 targets are hung with a time limit of 15  minutes  This is the last match of the day.

Starting at 8:30 we are usually through shooting these three matches by noon.

Equipment:

All shooting is done from a 2 piece rest.

Rimfire Class Rifle: A rifle firing the commercially produced .22 caliber Long Rifle Cartridge.  Any commercially produced rifle with a factory action and factory chambered barrel.  Stocks may be modified by glass bedding or changed to a different stock.  Triggers may be adjusted and/or changed but must be of a safe firing weight.  No electric triggers are allowed.

Varmint Class Rifles: A rifle firing a center-fired commercially produced cartridge.  Any commercially produced rifle with a factory action and factory chambered barrel and having a safe manually operated firing mechanism Stocks may be modified by glass bedding or changed to a different stock.  Triggers may be changed but must be of a safe firing weight.  No electric triggers are allowed.  No additions or attachments shall be added to the barrel, except for a scope shade which are attached to the barrel.  Remington 40XB stocks, as produced, may be used without alteration, provided there is no interaction between fore-end and sandbag that would constitute a guiding means.

Wolf Class Rifles: A commercial or custom-built rifle firing center-fired commercially produced or custom designed cartridges. Any rifle having a safe manually operated firing mechanism, any caliber, any stock.  Triggers must be of a safe weight and no electric triggers allowed.  No muzzle breaks may be used at any time. No guided return to battery may be used.  No hooked butt plates may be used.   The use of muzzle brakes and/or venting or porting of barrels that redirects powder gas flow from following the direct line of the rifle bore shall not be allowed.

 Rail Guns:  are not allowed in Pioneer Benchrest competition.  A rail gun is considered any rifle with the action contained in a mechanical device affixed to a rest.

End of Season:

After the October match is completed, there are award plaques given to the top three shooters in each classification.  To quality a shooter must have shot a minimum of 5 of the 8 matches.  The five top scores of the total matches are added together to determine the top three competitors in each class.

We usually have a lunch provided for this event.  Please ask if it will be for the each year.
